In both Never Let Me Go and Dirty Pretty Things, human organs become a commodity. What does this focus reveal about the nature of humanity? Is it possible to sympathize with this situation?
The focus of human organs as a commodity reveals that the nature of humanity is self preservation. Though it's seen as taboo to take healthy human organs for another person even though the donor may die seems dehumanizing. If people were pushed to the point where that was their only mean of survival than they would do it. Though I can see why they did it in "Never Let Me Go" it seems wrong to create these living beings only to kill them for their organs so others can live even though their natural life span is coming to an end.
This reveals that it is human nature to do whatever they can to survive. In Never Let Me Go, humans make clones to use their organs when needed. In Dirty Pretty Things, some sell their organs in order to receive money to live, while others receive these organs to live. I guess if I was in a life or death situation, I could sympathize with them, but I can not imagine giving away my organs or getting an organ from a clone to survive.
